Edinburgh National Gathering

Fri 04th October 2019 to Sun 06th October 2019
All Day

The autumn Gathering will take place in the city of Edinburgh and we will visit all three Cathedrals. On Friday afternoon we shall visit St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral on Palmerston Place, near Haymarket Station. There will be talks, tours of the Cathedral and Choral Evensong, and hopefully a concert given by pupils from St Mary’s Music School. St Mary’s Music School is Scotland’s only independent co-educational, non-denominational specialist music school, offering a world class standard of music andacademic education to musically gifted children aged 9-19 years. It is also the Choir School of St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral in Edinburgh.

On Saturday we will be based in the centre of Edinburgh. We will visit St Cecilia’s Hall, for tours and a recital. St Cecilia’s Hall is home to one of the most important historic musical instrument collections in the world. It is Scotland’s oldest purpose-built concert hall, and since its renovation, is now owned and cared for by Edinburgh University. We will attend an Organ Recital at St Mary’s Roman Catholic Cathedral and a choral concert at St Giles Cathedral on The Royal Mile. The Dinner will takeplace at the Radisson Blu, close to St Giles and St Cecilia’s Hall.

On Sunday there will be a choice of venue for morning service, followed by lunch and Evensong at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral. To finish, there will be an Organ Recital at St Giles on Sunday evening.

Travel
Access to Edinburgh is very easy via train and air. There is an efficient tram service and many buses, which join the two railway stations, Waverley and Haymarket, and the tram also runs from the airport.
The Old Town, where we shall mostly be on Saturday, is hilly and less easy to access.
