National Gathering – Sheffield
Fri 13th October 2017 to Sun 15th October 2017
13 – 15 October 2017
As 2017 marks the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, our visit to Sheffield in the autumn will focus on the Reformation and its effect on music and liturgy, with particular reference to Sheffield. The Gathering will include a trip to Doncaster Minster to hear the beautiful Schulz organ.
The Saturday evening meal will be at the Mercure St Paul’s Hotel (0114 278 2068), 10 mins walk from the cathedral, where they are offering B&B at £125 (single) or £135 (double) per night – quote “131017FRIENDOF”.
The nearest hotel to the cathedral is the Cutlers (Best Western) (0114 273 9939) B&B £65 single or £75 double (our DR Virge has checked this hotel and tells me it is perfectly acceptable, but ask for a front-facing room). An alternative and much cheaper option is the Wilson Carlile Centre (2 stops on the tram and a short walk from the cathedral) which is run by the Church Army (0114 252 1653, speak to Becky). If you quote FCM, you can get a single (£35) or double (£45) en-suite room with a light self-service breakfast.
UPDATE 20 August: The 50 places for the Tour of Cutlers’ Hall are now filled. There are, however, plenty of places left for the short walking tour & tea which is scheduled for the same time.
