DFC album Launch – Jubilate
Jubilate: 500 years of Cathedral Music
DFC’s Cathedral Choristers of Britain – the cathedral super-group – with St Paul’s Cathedral Choir and Aled Jones
The CD is now available!
St Paul’s Cathedral Choir has joined forces with DFC’s The Cathedral Choristers of Britain (one representative from the vast majority of the UK’s cathedral choirs) for a new album entitled ‘Jubilate: 500 Years of Cathedral Music’, released by Decca Classics and Classic FM on 17th March. The cathedral super-group is directed by Andrew Carwood and includes former choirboy Aled Jones.
We hope you will buy it, not just for the music, but also because royalties go to the Diamond Fund for Choristers, so you’d be helping give youngsters, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, what Alexander Armstrong describes as ‘the single greatest leg-up a child can be given in life’, as well as sustaining a unique strand in the UK’s cultural heritage. There’s more about the reasons for supporting this neglected and unfashionable cause in the CD sleeve notes.
Classic FM’s Aled Jones enjoyed singing in St Paul’s Cathedral with the choirs for the recording:
“What an amazing place to record an album! I’ve never seen so many choristers from cathedrals all around the country. When I first heard them sing all together, it was phenomenal – there were tears in people’s eyes, it was just so moving. It is wonderful to capture that on an album, and for me to sing with the choir as well was just fantastic.”
Good sales will not only help mitigate the gathering financial risks to this jewel in the British cultural landscape, but will also repay the faith shown in us and the cause by our first two corporate supporters, Classic FM and Decca, and that could lead to more such collaborative projects in the future.
