FCM Diamond Jubilee
2016 saw the Diamond Jubilee of the foundation of the Friends of Cathedral Music. In order to help ensure the survival of cathedral choirs for the future, the ‘Diamond Fund for Choristers’ was launched in the same year.
National Gatherings in four locations around Great Britain were held to give as many members as possible an opportunity to come together to celebrate this special anniversary. (These were in York, London, Gloucester and Liverpool.)
The main Diamond Jubilee National Gathering was the London Gathering on 24 – 25 June 2016, which included a service at St Bride’s, Fleet Street, London where Ronald Sibthorp held the first FCM meeting in 1956.
A concert to mark the Diamond Jubilee of the Friends of Cathedral Music was held at St Martin-in-the-Fields, London at 7.30 p.m. on Friday 24 June 2016. The concert was given by Portsmouth Cathedral Choir, the Choir of All Saints’ Church, Fulham and the Tiffin Boys’ Choir, all of whom are corporate members of the FCM.
