FCM Remembrance Service – Sydney, Australia
Three of FCM’s Corporate Member choirs in Sydney, Australia, are joining forces to sing at a special FCM Remembrance Day Liturgy at 5.00pm on Saturday 11th. November 2017 in St. James’ Church, King Street, Sydney.
Joining the Choir of St. James’ will be the choirs of St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Sydney and St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Parramatta. The music will include a piece specially composed for the occasion by FCM Member and Organist Emerita of St. Paul’s Cathedral, Melbourne, Dr. June Nixon, to Binyon’s words ‘They shall not grow old’.
The service will include the dedication of a plaque in memory of Frederick Septimus Kelly (1881-1916), who spent his early life in Sydney before moving to England, Eton College and Oxford University. He became an Olympic rower representing Great Britain, was a First World War veteran who took part in the Gallipoli Campaign and who died in the Battle of the Somme. He was also a well-known composer of his age and two of his compositions, ‘O Lord, have mercy’ and ‘Commit thy ways’ will be sung by the three choirs.
Any FCM Member who happens to be in Sydney at this time will be most welcome to attend.
