Recording of the month: April 2016

Choral Evensong from Salisbury Cathedral

Priory PRCD 1118

The choir of Salisbury Cathedral directed by David Halls

This is the eighth in the series of nine Music for Evensongs from Priory Records.  The 15th evening of the month is remembered by the choirs of our cathedrals and churches because Psalm 78 is sung at Evensong on that day; the second longest of all the 150 psalms, it takes a full 17 minutes of this CD. The disc includes Alcock’s Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis in A, Elgar’s anthem Light of the World, Parry’s stirring hymn Ye that know the Lord is gracious, Sumsion’s Te Deum in G and finishes with Howell’s Rhapsody Op 17 no 3.   Highly recommended and available from http://prioryrecords.co.uk/Chora-Evensong-Salisbury-Cathedral
