Widor:  Master of the Organ Symphony

Fugue State Films  FSFDVD 010

Another new release from Fugue State Films, this boxed set of 2 DVDs, 2 CDs and an 88-page booklet provides a complete portrait of this great French composer. It contains a three-part documentary explaining how Widor came to write his organ symphonies, how his compositional style developed and matured, and how these works fit into his career as a performer,  teacher and composer. The DVDs also set Widor’s organ music in the context of his work as a composer of operas, ballets, chamber music and orchestral symphonies. Performances by Daniel Roth and Gerard Brooks are on the Cavaillé-Coll organs of Saint Sulpice, Orléans Cathedral and Saint-Ouen, Rouen.  Enjoy a 10-minute trailer of the DVDs and you will be tempted to buy this latest release, available from
