A Second Evening with the Cathedral Choristers of Britain
Friends of Cathedral Music’s Diamond Fund for Choristers is delighted to announce that it will hold its second Cathedral Choristers of Britain concert at Liverpool Cathedral on 13 June 2019. The first such concert launched the Diamond Fund for Choristers and was held at St Paul’s Cathedral on 26 April 2016. It brought together choristers from 62 cathedrals – one from each cathedral, representing the greatest number of cathedral choirs ever under one roof – together with the choir of St Paul’s Cathedral in a remarkable and unforgettable performance, prompting some in the media to call it ‘the world’s first cathedral super-group’. The occasion prompted Decca Records to unite the choristers again to record four tracks on the best-selling CD ‘Jubilate – 500 years of Cathedral Music’.
The intention behind these concerts, planned to take place at three-yearly intervals at different cathedrals throughout the United Kingdom, is to showcase the talent of Britain’s cathedral choristers and the Directors of Music who train them, to raise awareness of this jewel in the UK’s cultural, educational and heritage crown against a background of increasing pressures on cathedral finances, and to raise funds to safeguard and strengthen Britain’s choral tradition.
