Welcome to Rochester Cathedral
FCM welcomes Rochester Cathedral as a new Corporate Member.
The choir at Rochester dates back 1400 years, but has a vibrant outlook on its work and is always keen to embrace new ways of doing things. During term time the music department delivers on average 8 sung services a week. These are undertaken by either the boys’ or girls’ choirs, and regularly the two choirs come together for important celebrations such as Christmas and Easter.
Recently, the choir has had a busy schedule of concerts and special services, including a service of remembrance with Canterbury Cathedral Choir at the Kent Cricket Ground, and an opportunity for the girls’ choir to take part in a performance of Monteverdi’s Vespers with Harry Christophers and The Sixteen.
Rochester’s outreach work has been developed with the introduction of a Children’s Community Choir. This year the Director of the Children’s Choir has been taking her work to local primary academies which gives an excellent opportunity to spread the musical outreach programme further.
FCM is delighted to be supporting Rochester Cathedral in its work, which helps to transform the lives of the young people that sing in the Choir – as old choristers would testify, many of these musical journeys last a lifetime.
