Welcome to St Alphege, Solihull, a new corporate member
We are delighted that a number of cathedrals and parish churches have recently joined Friends of Cathedral Music as corporate members. We aim to feature each of our new members in news posts in the coming weeks.
The first is St Alphege, Solihull
The church’s busy music department introduces itself:
St Alphege is proud of its strong choral foundation singing in the cathedral style of the Church of England. We have a choir of Boys and Men and choirs of Girls and Ladies. There are regular concerts and recitals by professional artists from all over the country as well as workshops and concerts to reach out into the community and schools in Solihull. We strive for the highest possible standards in everything we do to make sure all choristers and members of the music department have a great sense of fulfilment. We tour to cathedrals in England and Wales, and have also undertaken overseas tours in recent years including singing at Paris and Reims. We have recorded two CDs on the Regent Records label, one of Christmas music, and one of English choral classics, ‘Cecilia’s Music’. Famous choristers of the past include Iain Simcock, Nigel Short (founder and artistic director of Tenebrae) and Christopher Monks (Director of the Armonico Consort). Alice Halstead, one of our former choristers, won the coveted BBC ‘Young Chorister of the Year’ title in 2008.
We warmly welcome St Alphege to FCM, congratulate them on their wonderful array of music making and look forward to hearing more of their work in the months and years to come.
